Overview

Kalamazoo Behavioral Health Hospital  is looking for an experienced, detailed oriented HIM Information Analyst. The HIM Information Analyst assembles and analyzes medical records, retrieves and files medical records. Releases medical records in accordance with appropriate laws/agencies. Perform a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining patient records to include filing, retrieving and distributing medical records, loose notes and reports and maintaining associated logs and records in accordance with established priorities and procedures in any section of the HIM department.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and analyzes medical records timely and accurately for quantitative deficiencies. Informs physicians and hospital staff of needed documentation
  • Releases and copies records in a timely and accurate manner, analyzes and answers correspondence requesting information in accordance with hospital and governmental and regulatory policies, procedures, and statutes; retrieves records for various requests and copies information for internal and external review.
  • Collects records from other departments. Copies and distributes reports appropriately. Verifies accuracy of patient information on all reports.
  • Sort, collate and file a variety of medical record forms and information such as History and physical, Psychiatric evaluations and discharge summaries into patient medical records in appropriate sequence and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Retrieves and files medical records and loose reports accurately; maintains files in working order and neatly displayed
  • Answers telephone and takes requests for medical records or information; sort requests according to predetermined priorities and provide routine information of a general nature such as history numbers, admission or discharge dates and medical record locations to authorized requestors.
  • Maintain various control logs including master index and date registers. Records data appropriately. Verifies information for accuracy and completeness and making corrections as necessary.
  • Floats to other units and/or facilities as assigned
  • Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic or oral disclosures.
  • Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors.
  • Seeks guidance, remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as hospital policies that apply to assigned duties.
  • Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct.
  • Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree in Health Information Management or Healthcare Administration field preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in Health Information Management, medical records, or a related healthcare administrative role preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information technology is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary in order to interact with Medical Staff Providers.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail.
