Overview

NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals, the nation’s largest provider of innovative Behavioral Medical Healthcare, is looking for an Business Development Representative for our new de novo hospital, Kalamazoo Behavioral Health. This role functions under general supervision and direction of the Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Business Development/Marketing to plan, direct, and evaluate potential patients through a referral system, in accordance with established policy and philosophy Builds a positive relationship with area physicians, physician office staff, hospitals, Community Mental Health Centers and Skilled Nursing Centers to market our services.  Help to educate the area discharge planners, case managers, social workers, physicians, and other appropriate referral sources for admissions into the facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies candidates and potential clients.
  • Performs educational in-services and luncheons to potential referral sources and community partners. These services may be provided in institutional, residential, out-patient and community settings. These settings can include, but are not limited to, facilities for acute care, rehabilitation and skilled nursing, nursing homes, residential or day care facilities, or hospitals.
  • Provides recommendations as to appropriate levels of care.
  • Coordinates with the Intake Department on potential referrals and the admission process.
  • Educates clients, family members or significant others, referral sources, hospital personnel, external payers, and external case managers as to program benefits and services.
  • Works as the outreach case manager with the internal and external case management and social service team to provide a cost-effective discharge plan for each client.
  • Develops relationships with referral sources. Educates on inpatient criteria.
  • Prepares and submits activity reports, CRM, routing maps and monthly reports.
  • Provides information necessary to facilitate referrals and subsequent admissions to outside sources.
  • Provides outcome data to appropriate personnel within the hospital and to required physicians and their offices.
  • Negotiates approval for a client’s stay through effective communication with hospital personnel and providers.
  • Assists, as needed, with discharge planning for patients and families, determining which hospital or community resources should be included in the patients’ discharge plan, and requesting the determination of level of patient care for after care placement.
  • As needed, meet with inpatients to assess psychological status and documentation. Communicates with facilities and/or families to report patient progress, needs, concerns, and potential and actual problems.
  • Works closely with all members of the health care team in development of plan of treatment, including discharge plans, based on psychosocial assessment and accepted intervention. Facilities comprehensive discharge plan at time of initial evaluation based on age, diagnosis, cultural background, support system and functional strengths and limitations.
  • Provides family/caregiver/facility education in response to the identified needs of the patient.
  • Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary case management team as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books; journals and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic or oral disclosures.
  • Displays concern and initiative. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
  • Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors as well as outside referral sources.
  • Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as hospital polices that apply to assigned duties.
  • Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct.
  • Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
  • Understands and adheres to NPH’s compliance standards as they appear in NPH’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and hospital regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws as well as regulations and hospital policies that apply to assigned duties.
  • Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct. Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy. 
  • Some duties may be re-assigned and other duties may be assigned as required in the hospital’s sole discretion.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates preferred. 

Experience: 2+ years of related field experience preferred.  Experience in behavioral health marketing or community relations preferred.NDEEDHIGH
